Most people see a track jacket and think sportswear. A plain black one, cut well, is something different. It is a collared, zipped layer that sits somewhere between a bomber and a blazer.
Start with the right jacket
Look for these things:
- A plain, dark colour with no big graphics
- A stand-up collar that sits neatly
- Ribbed cuffs and hem that keep the shape
- Zip pockets, so nothing flaps or bulges
If it looks like a clean jacket first and a tracksuit top second, you are in the right place.
Pair it with smart pieces
Shirt and trousers. The easiest combination. A white or pale blue shirt, dark tailored trousers, black track jacket over the top. Zip it halfway and leave the collar of the shirt visible.
Knitwear. A fine-gauge knit under a track jacket looks deliberate and warm. Cream and black together is hard to beat.
Chinos and clean trainers. If your workplace is relaxed, this is the weekday uniform. Keep trainers white or black and spotless.
What to avoid
- Matching it with sweatpants of the same fabric when you want a smart look. Break the set up.
- Wearing it too tight. A track jacket should skim your body, not squeeze it.
- Pairing it with other sporty items like gym shorts or a branded cap in the same outfit.
When it works best
Smart casual offices, creative workplaces, travel days, dinners, and anywhere you want to look put together without trying too hard. It is also an easy choice if you need to go from a long day straight into an evening.
One piece, many lives
We designed our black zip jackets to be worn by all kinds of people, from health workers to office teams to people who simply like to look sharp. They are comfortable first, and sharp second, and that is deliberate.
