What Is Nyame Dua? The Meaning Behind Our Symbol

If you have looked closely at More Amoure, you will have noticed a small symbol made of four hearts. That symbol is our take on Nyame Dua, and it carries a lot of meaning for us.

The origin

Nyame Dua is an Adinkra symbol from the Akan people of Ghana. Adinkra symbols are visual proverbs. Each one holds an idea, a value or a piece of wisdom, and they have long been used on cloth, pottery and architecture.

The name translates roughly as "tree of God" or "God's tree". In the Akan tradition it stood for the presence and protection of God, and a Nyame Dua was historically a place where offerings could be made. It speaks of faith, shelter and being looked after.

Why it matters to us

More Amoure is a Christian-owned brand. Our whole idea is built on one belief: givers never lack. A symbol that speaks of protection, provision and faith fits that belief better than any logo we could have invented.

There is a personal link too. Our first More Action mission was in Ghana, where we handed out sanitary packs to girls across 20 rural schools. Using a symbol that comes from that culture is our way of honouring where part of this story began.

Our version

We shaped ours into a four-heart clover. The hearts are the "amoure" in More Amoure, which comes from the idea of love, and the clover shape gives it a feeling of luck and growth. It is a mark that is simple enough to sit on a sleeve or a cap and still hold meaning.

What we ask of ourselves

A symbol like this should never be decoration. We try to use it with respect, to credit where it comes from, and to make sure the brand behind it lives up to the idea of giving and protection.

You can read more about how More Amoure started on our About page, and see the symbol on pieces in our shop.
